Free exercise classes will be available in Southwark tomorrow (Wednesday September 22) for the tenth anniversary of the UK’s most active day of the year – National Fitness Day, writes Charles Harrison…
The activities, operated by Leisure contractor Everyone Active in partnership with Southwark Council, and coordinated by not-for-profit health body ukactive, include free exercise classes and free 30 minute personal trainer sessions for members.
The theme for this years’ National Fitness Day is “Fitness Unites Us.”
Huw Edwards, CEO of ukactive, said: “Following the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, physical activity has never been so important to our wellbeing.
“Fitness supports our mental and physical health and brings communities together.
We hope this year’s National Fitness Day will be celebrated in every corner of the UK, shining a spotlight on the essential role that fitness has in our future.”
Sites participating in the event include Camberwell, Dulwich, Seven Islands and The Castle Leisure Centres, and Surrey Docks Fitness & Water Sports Centre.
Everyone Active are also encouraging everyone to post on social media with the hashtag #Fitness2Me, to share personal stories of the benefits of keeping fit.
