Bermondsey children were symbolically handed the keys to Galleywall Primary School by the Mayor of Southwark last week, with just months to go until the school opens for the first time in September.
The children also carried coal and bread into the school to help bring in the New Year, as is an old English tradition.
Headteacher of the new school Sheila Cohring said: “We are delighted to have this opportunity to bring Galleywall School back to life.
“This school will represent the creativity and diversity that is the city of London.”
