A month-long celebration of the Thames will take place throughout September with a number of special events set to take place on Southwark’s river banks.
Totally Thames, which promises to “bring London’s river to life” with over 200 events, will run from September 1 to September 30.
The events will take place the length and breadth of the river’s 42-mile meander through the capital, but some of the best are taking place in the borough.
Potters Field will host the Riverside Festival all this weekend, with music, science workshops, a petting zoo and much more on show.
If you fancy something a little more competitive, find a good viewpoint on September 12 as over 300 boats race by in The Great River Race.
Want to listen to some music to tide you over until the next event? Pop down to the Scoop on September 13 for two choral performances or visit Southwark Cathedral for a number of performances until September 21.
There are also chances to explore the murky bascule chambers of Tower Bridge, educate yourself about the river’s history at City Hall, sunbathe at Tower Beach or get your adrenaline pumping with a river speedboat trip.
As well as this, the river’s major boat operators are offering two-for-one travel throughout the month – so get out on the water and go Totally Thames!
