A man who ‘threatened police officers’ was arrested after an eight-hour standoff in Great Dover Street.
Armed police swooped into Bermondsey and Borough shortly after 2pm yesterday afternoon (Saturday, January 2) to reports of a ‘disturbance’ at a residential address.
A man was refusing to leave the property and had ‘made threats’ to officers.
During the standoff police had sought to reassure the public that there was ‘no wider risk’ to residents and that they were confident no one else was in the building.
“At approximately 22:20hrs armed officers entered the property and safely detained a man, aged in his 40s,” a Met spokesperson confirmed.
“He has been arrested on suspicion of affray and making threats to commit criminal damage.”
The man is now in custody at a south London police station. Police say no injuries were reported.
Roads reopened shortly after the cordon has also been lifted.
Residents evacuated from neighbouring buildings were able to return last night.
