Homes have been evacuated and armed police remain on standby in Great Dover Street as police try and talk down a man who ‘made threats to officers’.
In a statement released this evening, a Met spokesperson said the armed response team was deployed as ‘a precaution’ and specialist officers are continuing to speak with a man inside the home.
Officers were called to the address at 2.12pm today (Saturday, January 2) after reports of a ‘disturbance’.
Hours later a heavy emergency services presence remained in the area, with Southwark Police later confirming threats had been made to officers.
In an updated statement, published at 10pm tonight, the Met said there are no reports of any injuries and “officers are confident that nobody else is inside the property”.
A spokesperson said: “A number of nearby buildings have been evacuated as a precaution and several roads are closed.
“There is no wider risk to the public.”

A cordon and road diversions are in place. Motorists should avoid the area.
