Guy’s and St Thomas’ is looking for volunteers to join a COVID-19 vaccine trial as it reaches the next stage in testing.
The Novavax COVID-19 vaccine has already completed preliminary testing in humans. These early trials showed promising results on antibody levels in healthy volunteers and, to date, no serious safety concerns have been identified.
It now requires testing on a large scale. A study involving 9,000 people across eighteen regions of the UK is beginning as the trial is opened up to the general public. Guy’s and St Thomas’ is looking to recruit volunteers aged eighteen to 84, and says most people will be ideal candidates.
But those with a body mass index below 17 or above 35, people taking anticoagulant therapy (aspirin or clopidogrel is fine) or anyone pregnant or aiming to become pregnant in the next year, would not be suitable.
Participants at higher risk from COVID-19 for any reason – due to their age, social situation or ethnicity – are particularly welcome.
