Guy’s Hospital’s new cancer centre to open doors on Monday

News Desk (22 September, 2016) Health

The centre's first chemotherapy treatment is booked in for October 3.

A total of 240 people toured the new £15m Cancer Centre at Guy’s Hospital over the Open House London weekend, ahead of people being seen in outpatient clinics on Monday.

The new state of the art centre is planned to be a “hub for south east London, providing specialist cancer services, training, development and research”.

It is hoped that by having “patients come to single site for both their cancer diagnosis and their ongoing cancer treatment, the new centre will assist us in providing a seamless stream of care.”

The cancer centre will be divided into ‘zones’ or ‘villages’, with most of the related treatment facilities grouped together in one place.

The ‘villages’ will have balconies to allow light into the building and provide outdoor space and the ground floor Welcome Zone will provide a rehabilitation gym, drop-in facilities, the Dimbleby Cancer Care Centre, retail space and a café.
