Harris Academy Bermondsey pupils presented a cheque worth over £1,000 to the Yalding Healthy Living Centre at a special coffee morning last week.
The girls welcomed members of the Age UK branch in Southwark Park Road to the ceremony at the school on July 25.
Most of the £1128.75 donated was raised at the Academy’s summer fair earlier this year. It was topped up by more contributions at the coffee morning, where young and old alike shared tea, cakes and stories.
Year 11 student Britney said: “A group of us visit the Yalding Centre every week, so we were happy to be able to welcome some of the older people at school today.
“We learn a lot from them and it’s funny how even though we are generations apart in age we find lots to talk about.”
