Aubrey the donkey braved wet and windy Walworth on Sunday morning for the annual Palm Sunday procession down East Street.
After the disappointment of Bruno the donkey’s no-show last year, Patrick Blunt, chair of the Walworth Town Team and Father Andrew Moughtin-Mumby, Rector of St Peter’s Church in Liverpool Grove, were delighted that Aubrey was the “star of the show” this year.
“He was so charming and well behaved,” said Patrick, who felt Aubrey also got a good deal on the day. In addition to his £450 fee, he also got to gorge on fresh East Street market fruit and veg from a stall used by three generations of the same family.
