Frontline staff at Guy’s and St Thomas’ are among those being offered free overnight accommodation by a string of youth hostels.
The charity YHA has been given £45,000 of funding to put up doctors and nurses working on the Covid frontline in central London for free.
The hostel on Bolsolver Street allows staff who can’t return home for whatever reason to be close to work.
Among those who’ve taken up the offer is Zoe Glossop, who works at Guy’s and St Thomas’. Previously Zoe would commute to the capital from her home in Manchester when needed, but she now stays at the hostel.
“I am so very grateful for the free accommodation in central London right now,” said Zoe.
“In the current economic conditions, it has made it affordable for me to continue to come from Manchester to work at Guy and St Thomas’. It makes a massive difference and is a real help.”
The stays are valid for up to two weeks, free-of-charge. All accommodation is in private rooms with dedicated toilet and shower facilities.
