The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is appealing for witnesses as it investigates whether police used excessive force against people who stopped an immigration van in Peckham.
Police were called to Evan Cook Close, Peckham, shortly after 1.30pm on Saturday, June 11 to a report of protesters obstructing immigration officers who had arrested a Nigerian man over suspected immigration offences.

Protesters blocked the van as it tried to depart and footage appearing to show clashes between the crowd and the police went viral, with some accusing police of being too heavy-handed.
After a stand-off lasting several hours the arrestee, suspected of overstaying his visa, was released on immigration bail.
IOPC Regional Director Sal Naseem said: “To assist with our investigation into the level of force the police officers used, we would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened.
“We are aware that footage of the incident, which appeared to show force being used, was posted on social media in the aftermath of the incident and would urge anyone who either has or knows of any footage that may have been recorded, to contact us as soon as possible.”
