Camberwell-born footballer Jadon Sancho and Bermondsey rock star Tommy Steele were among six people made Freepersons of Southwark on Saturday (May 24).

Southwark writer on black British history Stephen Bourne, former council chief executive Eleanor Kelly, Peckham Town manager and former England footballer Mary Philip, and Olympic gold medallist diver Tom Daley also got the award at Southwark Cathedral.

The freedom of Southwark is a ceremonial award given out by the council that recognises people’s contribution to the borough.
