Peckham-born John Boyega accepted his Golden Globes award on Sunday dressed in his tracksuit bottoms, writes Simon Throssell…
The Star Wars actor won the award for best supporting actor in a series, miniseries or television film for his role in Steve McQueen’s acclaimed Small Axe anthology series.
In ‘Red, White and Blue’, Boyega plays Leroy Logan who joins the Metropolitan Police with hopes of changing its racist attitudes from within after seeing his father assaulted by two police officers.
During his acceptance speech, Boyega admitted that he wasn’t expecting to win, saying: “I’m so shocked.
“I thought it was gonna be one of them nights where… you go to your bed and just chill,” he joked, before lifting up his leg to show his trousers.
“I’ve got Balenciagas, guys. I’ve got tracking bottoms on my bottoms that I’m comfortable [in], but this is exciting.”
The actor continued by thanking director Steve McQueen and highlighting the importance of the real police officer he portrayed.
He said: “He [Leroy Logan] has done so much work where I grew up in South London.
“I am very much a product of some of his hard work in the community. Meeting him had a big impact.”
