A nine-year-old girl’s artistic designs will be showcased before thousands of Tesco shoppers in Elephant and Castle after winning a competition for her school.
Aelwen Hamley entered the competition for youngsters to design a print for hessians bags, to be given away to shoppers at the Tesco in Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre.
The triumphant youngster was announced as the winner with her picture of an apple, made up of smaller pictures of other pieces of fruit.
Aelwen also won £500 for the school and a £25 Tesco gift card for herself.
Store manager Jonathan Mattai said: “We asked primary school children in the local area to draw a picture to promote healthy eating.
“We had a difficult job to pick a winner, but Aelwen’s design showed a lot of imagination and creativity and really stood out.”
Headteacher Marian Kennedy said: “The pupils are all very excited that Aelwen won the competition and staff, pupils and parents are looking forward to using the new hessian bags.”
