King’s College Hospital Charity’s Hospital Heroes appeal is expanding its work to support patients during the pandemic too.
As the News has reported, the appeal which has raised over £80,000 has helped fund frontline staff’s transport to and from work, hotel stays to cut down commute times, and care packages to help them during and after long shifts – from toiletries and shaving kits to help with shopping.
The charity now wants to expand this work to include care packages for ward patients who are unable to have their loved ones visit due to isolation rules.
On their ‘wish list’ for in-patients are DVD players, puzzles and other games, radios, earphones, tablets and other smart devices so they can Skype and Facetime, and lavender humidifiers which nurses say help provide a calming atmosphere.
