A public consultation period will end on Sunday for proposals to transform Elephant and Castle with a new shopping centre, 979 homes and university campus.
More than 75 public comments have been made since developer Delancey submitted a panning application in December.
Palatial Leisure Ltd, which owns the bingo hall and bowling alley in the current shopping centre, objected on the grounds that the new development offered “quantitatively less leisure space” and a “diminished quality” of leisure choice.
The Coronet theatre, bowling alley and bingo hall would all be demolished in the proposals, to be replaced by a multi-screen cinema and 500-capacity music venue.
The Draper Residents’ Association wrote: “We are concerned that only 40 per cent of the affordable housing will be let at or below the new London Living Rent and tenancies will be three-year assured short-hold.”
The plans say that the 979 flats would be included in three tower blocks on the east side of the Elephant junction, with the tallest tower at 34-storeys high. 538 of these flats would be two-bedroom.
A new Northern Line station entrance would be located in the pedestrian peninsula.
