A 44-year-old man was last week ambushed by a hammer-wielding attacker who followed him into a lift.
The attack happened last Friday at 11.50am just as the two men emerged from a ground floor lift in Dawes Street near the Aylesbury Estate.
Inspector Kelvin Jackson-Robbins of the Met Police said: “They both exited at the ground floor when the suspect assaulted the victim with a hammer and demanded his wallet.
“The victim however escaped and no property was taken.”
Police are now asking locals to come forward with any information they can offer about the suspect.
He was described by the victim as male, black, 5 foot 11 in, aged between 25 and 27, and wearing a black hooded top, blue jeans and black trainers.
