A man was assaulted in what is believed to have been a homophobic attack in Denmark Hill at the weekend.
Officers were called in the early hours of Sunday morning, shortly after 3am, on July 14, to reports of a man injured near the junction of Denmark Hill and Camberwell Road.
The 29-year-old was hospitalised with a head injury but has now been discharged.
A 19-year-old was arrested at the scene on suspicion of GBH and has since been released under investigation.
Today the Met confirmed the attack is being treated as a homophobic hate crime due to the nature of comments made prior to the assault.
Officers are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward by calling 101 or contacting Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
