A man died in hospital last week after being rescued by fire-fighters from a blaze in a Herne Hill flat.
The fire in Holmdene Avenue occurred in the building’s loft conversion at around 2.30pm last Saturday. Two people managed to escape the building before emergency services arrived, but another remained trapped inside.
Twenty-one fire fighters and officers were called to the scene, where they fought the flames and entered the building using breathing apparatus. They rescued the man from the SE24 property, but sadly he passed away in hospital later that day.
A spokesperson for the fire brigade said: “The Brigade was called at 14:28 and fire was under control at 16:46. Four fire engines from Brixton, West Norwood and Clapham fire stations attended the incident.”
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
