Police have confirmed that a man has died this morning following a collision in Peckham High Street.
A local resident has given unconfirmed reports that the deceased was a man with crutches who was attempting to cross the road, when he came into collision with a truck.
Police have said they were called at 10:04am to reports of a road traffic collision, and that the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road has been cordoned off to east and west-bound traffic.
London Air Ambulance also attended.
Nicholas Okwulu, whose Pempeople shop overlooks the scene, told the News: “I was going past and I could see the guy covered up on the floor.
“I was literally on the phone and saw it out the window.
“The truck came to a stop right outside my shop. People flagged him down.
“I think it’s an old man and I think he had crutches.”
A statement from the police said: “Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance are in attendance.
“A man (no further details) was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Enquiries into the circumstances continue.
“No arrests have been made.
“Road closures are in place. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.”
People had to flag down the driver? WTF did the driver not notice? Serious questions to ask there – is that a Primagrange vehicle – second fatal for company in under a year?
