A man who pleaded guilty to stealing five packets of steak from Lidl in Peckham High Street said he was going to sell them and send money to his family in Namibia.
Donovan Briedhann, of Electric Lane in Lambeth, stole £32.44 worth of steak on March 11.
He pleaded guilty to theft from a shop and was fined £70. However, because he had been held in custody since his arrest, magistrates considered his fine paid.
