McDonald’s has pulled out of plans to extend the opening hours of its Rye Lane branch until 5am on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
The fast food chain had made an application to Southwark Council. But the company confirmed on August 4 that complaints raised by local residents had discouraged it from continuing its application.
A McDonald’s spokesperson told the News: “We can confirm that McDonald’s chose to withdraw an application to extend the opening hours of our Rye Lane restaurant.
“This decision was made in response to a small number of concerns raised by the local community.
“As part of our commitment to being a good neighbour, we will work to address these concerns before we consider any similar applications in future.”
The application has been removed from Southwark Council’s online register of applications.
Had the application not been withdrawn, a decision to approve or reject it would have been taken by councillors on Southwark Council’s Licensing Committee.
