Over 60 people attended a disability athletics day organised by Millwall Community Trust last week.
Members of Brighter Horizons, Bromley, and Bede House, Rotherhithe, took part in the event at Southwark Park Athletics Centre, channelling the spirit of the Paralympics.
Participants enjoyed a range of activities including shotput, javelin, long jump, high jump, and 60m and 80m races.
Prior to the day itself, all those involved took part in a six week training programme.
The event was organised by the Millwall Community Trust, with funding provided by the Lord Mayor’s Fund.
Ben Perryman, a member of Millwall Community Trust, who organised the day, said: “The event went amazingly. It was really nice to see over 60 people with smiles on their faces doing activities they wouldn’t usually have the chance to do.”
The Millwall Community Trust plans to organise an even bigger event next year and invite a third local community group to the day.
