Millwall has announced this evening that Wednesday’s scheduled Lewisham Council CPO meeting has been adjourned.
The news comes after the club’s lawyers requested that the council postpone the meeting pending discussion over the future of Millwall’s youth academy and the Millwall Community Trust.
It is the second adjournment in less than a month after the club claimed a number of its concerns relating to the potential loss of its academy status and the long-term viability of the MCT had not been adequately addressed by either the council or by property developer Renewal, which has plans to develop land around The Den.
Millwall chief executive Steve Kavanagh this week addressed a letter to Lewisham Council cabinet members, as well as to Southwark Council leaders, in which he stated: “The club is very concerned you are being led to believe by the (Lewisham) Council’s officers that the issues we have raised about the future of our youth academy have somehow been satisfactorily resolved. Sadly, this is not the case.”
Kavanagh also urged council officers to take up an invitation to meet on one of the club’s facilities to “discuss these critical issues”.
A new date for the meeting will be set for February 8.
