A mystery donor has given a massive £3,000 to an ill Bermondsey girl’s campaign to buy a computer, so she can communicate with her family for the first time.

The campaign to buy a computer for ten-year-old Ruby Longman was launched in May and has attracted support from all over the borough.

Known only as John, the mysterious man posted on the donation page: “Good luck. Hope you reach your target soon”.

Ruby, a pupil at Alfred Salter Primary School, suffers from the rare Rett syndrome, which has prevented her from walking and talking since she was a baby.

Timi, Ruby’s mum, was shocked by the donation and told the News: “I would love to know who he is and how he found out about it. If it’s someone I know or not. I really want to thank him. When it happened I had no idea.

“I just came out of a doctor’s appointment and wasn’t getting notifications on my phone anymore. One of the mum’s texted me and said “isn’t it great about the £3,000 donation!” so I had a quick look and saw it. We are all still in shock!”

The campaign is now just £1,000 away from the £10,000 target and a final push is needed.

The News previously reported how a charity football match was held by football coaching and mentoring company Ballers, raising £506.44.
