Goose Green Solidarity fund received a £4k boost from a mystery donor in time for Christmas.
The fund, one of several to crop up across Southwark since Mutual Aid groups were formed in March, provides no-strings financial support to anyone who needs it within a set postcode.
It is funded by neighbours, for their neighbours.
As featured in the News, the initiatives had called for extra support in the run up to Christmas to help residents with their bills and other basic costs.
A £10,000 fundraiser has been exceeded – with a very generous anonymous donor giving a surprise £4,000 toward people living in the Goose Green area.
The funds organisers said they were ‘astonished’ at the support – which would help hundreds across London.
“We are a bit overwhelmed really,” they Tweeted.
“ This is the principle of wealth redistribution but it’s still incredible to see it in action.”
