Police raced to a Bermondsey petrol station this morning (Saturday, September 22) after a naked man brandishing a ‘kitchen knife’ burst into the shop and started throwing things off the shelves.
The man burst into the Shell petrol station on Southwark Park Road at around 8.47am. One customer is believed to have been in the shop at the time and fled while a member of staff darted out of view to call the police.
The man is believed to have been claiming that another man was after him and was completely naked according to a witness.
The ordeal is believed to have continued for around 30 minutes, but no one was injured.
Police confirmed to the News that they were called at “approximately 08:47hrs to reports of concern for a man carrying a knife on Southwark Park Road, SE16.
Adding: “The man was detained at the scene and was taken to a south London hospital. It is believed he was suffering from an acute behavioural disorder.”
