Bermondsey MP Neil Coyle visited Burgess Park’s Clubhouse cafe on Friday.
The cafe has recently been taken over by children’s charity Burgess Sports, with all profits going toward providing activities and food for children living nearby.
Coyle said: “It’s great to see a community-spirited, community-focussed organisation that is successfully running a café here in Burgess Park.
“Burgess Sports’ clubs are an asset, helping keep children healthy at a time when, at some schools, 90% of the children attending don’t have any outdoor space of their own.
“The activities in the park are important in making sure that children can exercise, and to helping tackle the child obesity problem in London, which is crucial to children’s futures.”
He added: “The value of this café is wider than just a cup of tea, as much as this tea is great!”
