Mountview has had a makeover to raise awareness of the impact Coronavirus has on the theatre industry.
The performing arts school has been temporarily draped in tape to highlight how the performing arts are ‘missing’ – and many venues face permanent closure. It was created by Scene Change, a community of theatre designers, who have also worked on a similar striking piece at the National Theatre.
2020 was set to be a big year for Mountview – its 75th anniversary. Although currently closed due to COVID-19, the school has been shortlisted for The Stage’s Theatre Building of the Year 2020.
Its joint chief executives Sarah Preece and Stephen Jameson also received special recognition at the prestigious Olivier Awards; in acknowledgement for the school’s relocation to Peckham and commitment to promoting diversity within the arts.
