As part of the Dulwich Estate’s commitment to open up green spaces to the public a new apple orchard and heritage trial was launched in the area this month, writes Rosie Clarkson…
On Sunday, September 1, more than 500 people gathered at the opening, hosted in partnership with London Wildlife Trust.
Families enjoyed nature and wood-based craft activities, along with other entertainment and snacks provided by local businesses. The orchard was then blessed by Reverend John Watson.
“It supports the Estate’s wider work in nurturing green spaces, making this area one of London’s greenest. We are delighted to partner with London Wildlife Trust in bringing the orchard into use. The new heritage trail takes visitors on a walk from north to south Dulwich, and brings to life local history along the way” says Nicola Meredith, Chairman of Trustees of The Dulwich Estate.
Village Orchard, Dulwich, SE21 7AE is open weekdays 9am-5pm.
The heritage trail map is available at Dulwich Picture Gallery, SE21 7AE and online at thedulwichestate.org.uk.
