A 24-hour Overground service will connect to the night Tube network at Canada Water from December.
Trains on the night Overground network will run 24 hours a day on Fridays and Saturdays on the east London line from December 15.
Initially, the night Overground will run between New Cross Gate and Dalston Junction and will connect with the night Tube at Canada Water on the Jubilee line.
From next year, it will also extend to Highbury and Islington on the Victoria line.
All stations along the route will be staffed at all times while trains are running, with CCTV, modern lighting and help points throughout.
Nadia Wyse, venue director of Printworks London, near Canada Water station, said: “For London to be successful as a cultural capital, and attract the best events and talent from around the world, it needs a vibrant night time economy supported by its transport networks.
“TfL’s announcement that all night London Overground services will pass through Canada Water is fantastic news for people visiting our events.”
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, added: “We continue to improve the service every year and I’m delighted that we can bring night services to the East London line for the first time ever next month.
“The night Tube has proven such a success with Londoners, I know the night Overground will help thousands more who are working through the night or out enjoying our capital’s nightlife.”
Since its launch in 2007, the Overground has grown to be the third largest rail operator in the UK, running to 23 boroughs and southern Hertfordshire.
It carried 189 million customers in 2016-17 – up from 33 million in 2008-09.
Other improvements are also planned for the Overground in the coming years.
These include extending the Gospel Oak to Barking line to Barking Riverside, and electrifying the Gospel Oak to Barking line, allowing for more reliable trains with space for twice as many customers.
There are also plans for 45 air-conditioned, walk-through trains to replace 30-year-old rolling stock on West Anglia lines out of Liverpool Street and Romford to Upminster routes.
