A man was robbed and sprayed with a substance believed to be CS gas near Old Kent Road’s Tesco on Monday, as police warn of a spate of commuter-targeted robberies.

PC Nick Waller told the News that the suspects, who were all on bicycles, followed the victim from Abercorn Way toward Tesco, where they sprayed him with the unknown substance and stole his possessions.

The attack took place at around 6.30am on Monday, August 21, and the victim was taken to St Thomas’ hospital with ‘non-life threatening injuries’.

PC Waller said a number of robberies have recently occurred in the early hours, appearing to target commuters.

Anyone with information should call 101.
