An up-market chippy in Herne Hill has won a national award for its gluten-free batter and offering for people with dietary requirements.
Olley’s Fish Experience in Norwood Road won the gold medal in the annual FreeFrom Eating Out Awards.
Judges based their decision on secret visits to dozens of restaurants and takeaways across the country.
They scrutinised Olley’s gluten-free fish and chips, and judged waiters’ knowledge of the ingredients, and their ability to deal with customers’ dietary needs.
Harry Niazi, who owns the restaurant, said: “Catering for the gluten free market is a serious business and we know that. We have invested in the best gluten free batter, separate utensils and fryer and even branded wooden food picks to differentiate gluten free food from gluten containing dishes.
“As such, we’ve seen our gluten free fish and chips become increasingly popular year-on-year.”
