A Peckham-based entrepreneur has won a coveted place on a three-month mentoring programme for small independent businesses keen to grow.
Kim Reddish, the founder of accessory and lifestyle brand Sun and Day – an online shop that sells jewellery, accessories and homeware – is being supported by new mentor Connie Nam, the founder and CEO of cult British jewellery brand Astrid & Miyu.
Nam is an ex-investment banker who set up Astrid & Miyu by herself from her kitchen table eight years ago. She is now the owner and CEO of a business with six shops, a turnover of £10m and 80 staff. Online sales have increased 100 per cent so far in 2020.
“Launching Astrid and Miyu was a lonely journey – literally because I was working on my own and figuratively because nobody could really understand what I was going through,” she said.
“We are lucky that the business is in a strong position and will survive the current crisis, but it struck me how much kindness and resilience we have seen for our customers, suppliers and network and as a result of the pandemic.
“I wanted to give back and that led me to launch the Astrid & Miyu Business Accelerator Programme so I can share my experience and help young business founders navigate this uncertain period.”
Sun & Day, is one of three successful businesses chosen due their owners’ drive and the potential for each company to expand.
Kim said: “Connie’s advice has been very insightful and challenged the way I think about my current business model, especially with the impact of COVID-19 and preparing for how to adapt our brand moving forward after the crisis.
“I am very grateful for the guidance from the programme, especially during this testing time.
“The mentorship has provided me with invaluable information and resources which I am keen to apply to Sun and Day and hopefully strengthen our small business for the future.”
