A filmmaker from Peckham is one of a shortlist of five creatives to have their work broadcast on Sky Arts later this year.
Isabella Culver’s piece Seven Sisters is a modern-day witchcraft story following Juliet as she tries out a new way to manage her Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
The finalists were whittled down from more than 300 applications by a panel of experts and will each be awarded £10,000 from the Shortflix scheme, run by Creative England in partnership with Sky Arts and ScreenSkills.
The aim of the project is to help aspiring filmmakers aged eighteen to 25 who are not in employment, education or training.
They pitched their ideas and were given hands-on support as they produced the films.
Gareth Ellis-Unwin, ScreenSkills’ head of film and animation, said: “We’d like to congratulate all five finalists – and we’re delighted to see such a wide range of voices included.
“Working with Shortflix on the scheme is part of our ongoing work to help build a more inclusive workforce in the industry, with the experience to tell a range of stories with authenticity and cultural relevance.
“We look forward to seeing the finished shorts in the new year.”
