A 75-year-old woman was fatally stabbed to death yesterday afternoon at an address in Peckham.
Police and the London Ambulance Service were called to the house on Ethnard Road yesterday evening at 4.04pm and found the pensioner suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, she died at the scene at 4.37pm.
A 55-year-old man was arrested at the address on suspicion of murder. Police said he was known to the woman.
The suspect was taken to an east London hospital to be treated for a stab wound before being taken into custody at a south London police station.
The man remains in custody.
Although formal identification has not yet taken place, officers are confident they know the identity of the victim.
Police said nobody else was being sought in connection with the killing.
The woman’s next of kin has been notified and a post-mortem is due to take place.
Detectives in the Homicide and Major Crime Command investigating and said that enquiries are continuing.
