Officers investigating the fatal shooting of seventeen-year-old Rhyhiem Ainsworth Barton from Kennington’s Brandon Estate have made an arrest.
Rhyhiem Ainsworth Barton was found suffering from a gunshot injury on Warham Street on Sunday, May 5, after police were alerted to reports of shots fired on nearby Cooks Road.
Medics gave him first aid at the scene, but he was pronounced dead at 6.56 pm.
The Met said a seventeen-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday, 10 June.
The teenager has since been released under investigation.
Rhyhiem Barton lived on the Brandon estate and was said to be an ‘aspiring architect’.
He rapped under the name GB in ‘drill videos’ shared online, with a group alleged to have been part of a well-known gang who argued with a Peckham-based rival gang in tit-for-tat music videos.
His mother has always maintained Rhyhiem was not a gang member.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Sadiq Khan joined a community march calling for more funding and powers for the Met to tackle violent crime.
