Police have confirmed to the News this morning that there was no suspected car bomb at Elephant and Castle yesterday, despite media reports.
After Blackfriars Road was closed off in the afternoon, rumours of possible explosives in a vehicle were circulated online.
But officers have confirmed this morning that the incident involved officers arresting occupants of an allegedly stolen car.
A police spokesperson said: “At 1.45pm armed officers on routine patrol stopped a vehicle on Blackfriars Road at the junction with St George’s Circus. The occupants of the vehicle, three men, were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and they were taken to a South London police station.”
