Children at a Rotherhithe primary school had the chance to meet a Burmese snake – and were even brave enough to feed and stroke it.

Fearless pupils in nursery and reception at Redriff Primary School met a bearded dragon, a ball snake, a Burmese snake and a milk snake.

Paul Newman, from Ivydale Science and Technology Service, took the reptiles into the school to teach the children about their environment and how to take care of them.

The children have been learning about minibeasts this term and have read texts based around the topic, such as ‘Superworm’ by Julia Donaldson and ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle.
