A Rotherhithe charity has launched a new weekly walking group to encourage locals to exercise and socialise
The walks begin at the Restorative Justice For All (RJ4All) community centre at 10am every Wednesday morning and run for two hours around the Surrey Docks area.
Everyone who takes part in “Walk and Unwind” will be given a free coffee, and RJ4ALL plans to hand out free t-shirts for attendees soon. The aim of the project is to get people in the area exercising and socialising with one another in a bid to combat loneliness and improve the wellbeing of the neighbourhood.
RJ4ALL said it expects most people who take part to be stay at home parents or retirees, as the walks take place on a weekday in the middle of the day in the middle of the week.
But there are no restrictions on who can take part and people of all ages and stamina levels are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
‘A solid group of lads’: Bermondsey men’s mental health charity walking to support RNLI
The new walking group follows in the footsteps of the Proper Blokes Club, a Bermondsey and Rotherhithe-based walking group that aims to tackle the stigma of men discussing their mental health issues.
To take part in the walks go to 30 Plough Way SE16 2LJ at 10am on Wednesday.
