A community centre is set to get a £56,000 facelift thanks to a generous grant.
Rotherhithe Community Centre will see its entrance and outdoor areas revamped and an accessibility ramp installed after receiving a grant from The Veolia Environmental Trust.
The £56,374 worth of funding will go towards building on a previous internal refurbishment of the centre, located in the heart of Rotherhithe Estate, in Plough Way, which was carried out in 2015.
The Trust will now begin working alongside Affinity Sutton Community Foundation (part of Clarion Housing Group) to finalise the project’s details, including a start date.
Matthew Parsonage, of the Affinity Sutton Community Foundation, said: “This grant is great news for the centre, the people that use it, and the estate as a whole.
“It means we can make the outdoor space more attractive and accessible for all.”
The executive director of The Veolia Environmental Trust, Paul Taylor, added: “We are really pleased to be able to support this important project and we look forward to seeing the improved space and ramp being used and enjoyed.
“Our application process is a competitive one, so the community foundation and the other successful applicants must be congratulated on their success.”
The grant, awarded to the community foundation through the Landfill Communities Fund, is one of 33 awarded to community and environmental projects in England, with a grant total of over £1million.
Since 1999, Veolia has awarded over £6.7million to 206 projects in Greater London.
