A community meeting will be held on Saturday to discuss the proposed Rotherhithe pier.
Simon Hughes MP has called on residents to attend the meeting and support the scheme, which received a boost when Chancellor George Osborne mentioned it in his Autumn Statement last year.
The MP for Bermondsey and Old Southwark said: “The sailing of the Mayflower from Rotherhithe in 1620 is an important part of our local history. We must make Rotherhithe a central part of the 400th anniversary celebrations in 2020 – and a new pier would be a good way to do that.”
He added:?“A new pier in Rotherhithe would also make a real difference to residents, visitors and commuters. I am fighting for this to happen, but I need as many local residents as possible to add their voice.”
The meeting will take place at St Mary’s Church, St Marychurch Street, on February 28 from 10:30am until noon.
