Aspiring athletes and sports stars can now apply for a new sponsorship scheme that will give them free gym membership and funding for competitions and training.
Applications for Everyone Active’s Sporting Champions scheme opened on Monday and will close on Friday, February 22.
Now in its fourth year, the scheme has so far helped more than 800 athletes by giving them access to training facilities, financial support and expert advice.
Benefiting athletes include Paralympic couple Alice and James Luetchford, who regularly train at Dulwich Leisure Centre, who were crowned double British champions in slalom and giant slalom in 2017 in the B2 classification.
Successful applicants can use Everyone Active gyms for free, with some candidates also in line for £5,000 grants, as well as support from top sports people.
Duncan Jefford, director of Everyone Active’s Sporting Champions, said: “We are proud to have invested over £500,000 in helping upcoming athletes up and down the country to achieve their goals and continue in their sporting career.
“We have exciting plans for the future of the scheme, and I would encourage any athletes from the London Borough of Southwark that are looking not just for funding but also mentoring for their future sports career to apply for Everyone Active’s Sporting Champions scheme.”
