Two Camberwell scouts held a marathon litter pick around Dulwich and Herne Hill over the weekend.
Tabitha and Amy, from the 5th Camberwell Troop, collected five sacks of rubbish on Sunday, June 2, which they then sorted, making sure as much as possible was recycled.
Their efforts were helping to raise funds to pay for them to attend the European Scout Jamboree in Poland next year – known as ‘Eurojam’.
Tabitha said: “I’m really excited to have been selected to represent my scout troop at Eurojam.
“One of the goals of Eurojam is to raise awareness about sustainable development.
“That’s why I thought it would be a good idea to do a sponsored litter pick to help towards my fundraising goal for the trip.
“I was really shocked at how many plastic water bottles we collected.”
Amy said Eurojam was an ‘amazing adventure’ but also about important life-skills.
“There are educational goals too, for example learning how to embrace challenges, develop self-reliance, build self-confidence and spark off the need for continuous self-improvement,” she explained.
