A man has been charged with allegedly raping a woman in the Tibetan Peace Gardens near the Imperial War Museum on  Lambeth Road.

Eleas Alfa Patience Godwin, 43, of no fixed address was charged yesterday with rape and actual bodily harm.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Camberwell Green Magistrates Court this morning.

The charge comes after a woman contacted police on Tuesday, October 15 to report that she had been raped at around 3am that morning.

Police had launched an appeal for information, and said they would like to thank the public for their assistance.
