The search is on for Southwark’s best businesses after a spectacular launch at the luxury Shangri-La Hotel At The Shard last week.
More than 200 guests and sponsors packed the 34th floor of London’s iconic landmark to hear details of the 2019 Southwark Business Excellence Awards in association with London Southbank University.
The second annual awards are open to all 18,000 businesses across the borough.
Free and easy to enter online, there are 14 exciting entry categories, updated for 2019, plus an opportunity for local people to Nominate a Business.
Businesses can enter up to three categories for free, with the exception of Business of the Year, which is chosen by the judges. Last year’s winners can enter any category except those which they won in 2018.
The finale of the awards programme, which is building on the huge success of last year’s first event, will be the glittering, Gala Dinner & Charity Ball awards ceremony for 450 people in June, hosted by ITV Good Morning Britain presenter Michael Underwood.
Urging firms to enter, last year’s first-ever Business of the Year winner Melissa Harwood, owner of East Dulwich restaurant Spinach, said, “Winning and the recognition it has given us was a real confidence boost. I would absolutely encourage all businesses to enter in 2019 – for us, it has been great for business, great for our community and a real morale booster for staff.”
Deputy Mayor of London for Business, Rajesh Agrawal, told launch guests that Southwark played a vital role in the City’s economic health. He said: “Southwark is home to many vibrant and dynamic businesses which make an important contribution to London’s economy. Seeing so many at this launch demonstrates once again that London remains a great place to start and grow a business.”
