A Serco guard is in a critical condition after being attacked by a prisoner she was escorting from Blackfriars Crown Court to a waiting security van.
The woman in her 50s was “seriously assaulted” by the man at around 1.30pm on Monday at the SE1 courthouse.
Her injuries were so severe that an Air Ambulance was called. She was treated at the scene before being taken to an east London hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.
The 22-year-old prisoner has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody in a south London police station.
Anyone with information is asked to call the incident room based at Sutton on 020 8721 4054 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
They need to review their security systems and surely there is CCTV monitoring such transfers? Why are they appealing for passersby? Some serious questions need answering.
