A new not-for-profit company mentoring and coaching vulnerable young women to achieve their dreams launched in Peckham’s Enterprise Centre this month.
She Oath, founded by Brookemorgan, officially opened on July 4. The new She Oath Safe Space is aimed at developing confidence in young women and girls aged thirteen to 25 who need support, either through drop-in sessions, one-on-one support, workshops, events, clothing support and other programmes.
The community interest company aims to give mentees who have experienced homelessness, abuse, mental health difficulties and other challenges the skills needed to flourish.
Founder Brookemorgan draws on her training as a coach and mental health first aider, and past experience of homelessness.
“She Oath is the baby of my lived experiences, healing and purpose,” she said. “She Oath is not just a CIC it’s a part of the solution to plugging the cracks young girls and women fall through due to the lack of authentic confidence, guidance and knowledge of self.”
Brookemorgan came up with the idea for She Oath after spending time at Centrepoint after her relationship with her mother, who suffers from depression broke down and she was left sofa-surfing while struggling to complete her education.
While at Centrepoint she was able to go back to her studies, both at college and university, was nominated for a music award and worked in the film industry and for the charity that helped her.
She Oath was launched with support from Launch It Trust, Blagrave Trust and Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
Teann, an assistant interior designer who has been supported by She Oath said of the scheme: “I’ve come so far, at such a young age which is crazy but I owe it a lot to She Oath, because if I didn’t have that self assurance from a year ago.”
