There are still no details of the number of extra police officers promised for Southwark, nearly six months after plans for 20,000 new officers were announced last July.
Last Tuesday in the House of Commons, policing minister, Kit Malthouse, was unable to confirm how many would be coming to the borough from the extra coppers pledged by Boris Johnson last year.
Malthouse responded to questioning from Bermondsey and Old Southwark MP Neil Coyle, but was only able to say: “Southwark will receive or the Met will receive its share of those police officers, alongside whatever the Mayor choses to do in augmenting the Met’s finances.”
Since cuts to the Met from 2010 onward, Southwark has lost more than 400 police officers and police community support officers
