The borough’s Healthwatch team scooped a national award earlier this month for its work improving people’s experiences when leaving hospital, writes Becky Morton.
Healthwatch Southwark and Lambeth won the Local Healthwatch Working Together category at the national Healthwatch Network Awards on 6 July.
Their project, Going Home, tracked patients for up to three months after they were discharged to see if they were getting the care they needed.
The group are now working with King’s Hospital to help staff understand the experiences of older patients, from visiting A&E to returning home.
Healthwatch is an independent champion for patients, which aims to ensure the public’s views on health and social care services are heard.
